This is my great grandfather who fought for the Union in the Civil War. Unfortunately his right arm got in the way of a Confederate bullet. This may look like he is holding up his left arm, but photos in those days were frequently taken without a negative and the image went directly to a paper or metal plate. The resulting photo was a mirror image.
