Great Grand Dad

These photos have been in my family for many years. They are of my great grandfather who fought for the Union in the Civil War. He was one of the lucky ones and made it out alive, but not without a bullet hole in his right arm. The original tintypes are dark, stained and damaged. A real challenge. I think the finished images show my efforts were worth it. One interesting side note is the bullet hole appears to be in his left arm, but it was actually his right. This type of photograph did not have a negative, but went directly to a metal plate. All photos of this type are mirror images and therefore reversed.
